A couple of days ago, Yaesu released Wires-X version 2.0. The main change in the Wires-X system, was migrating to IPv6. IPv4 required port forwarding with an HRI-200, and users with T-Mobile type internet or Starlink would not be able to get a static IP address or do port forwarding. IPv6 fixes all that, but Yaesu’s initial release had a big limitation.

Initially, they indicated one would need to fist connect with IPv6, and then they could drop back to IPv4. This made no sense. Users who had ISPs who did not offer IPv6, would be out-of-luck. They would have to stay with the last version, 1.57. They would not be able to connect to rooms who upgraded to V2.0. So room owners would not want to upgrade,

This would have created two worlds, one with rooms that were only 1.57 compatible, and rooms that were v2.0 compatible.

On March 21, Yaesu released a new video, and they stated they had made it possible to upgrade to V2.0, and still use IPv4. This seemed to solve most issues. If room owners upgrade to V2.0, then set compatibility of their rooms to be compatible with v1.57, things would be essentially trouble-free. The only issue would be v1.57 users trying to connect to a V2.0 room that was not set to compatibility with 1.57. This should be rare. Room owners really should stay compatible wit 1.57 for the foreseeable future.

I have upgraded the W2XRX-RPT room to V2.0. You can still connect with v1.57, but you won’t be able to go into Wires-X control mode and change to a room that has not upgraded. I would think that most room owners will, now that they have this latest update on March 21. If they do not upgrade, they potentially will be limiting people who might want to connect.

I believe this latest update from Yaesu has removed the main barriers to upgrade for most users. Not sure why Yaesu waited for user feedback to make this change, but whatever, at least they fixed it.
