Since MFJ has significantly reduced their business, I have had two issues with MFJ Products. I am not exactly sure what their ongoing presence will be. Their announcement was they were shutting down their US manufacturing facility, and that Martin Jue was “retiring”, yet it was not clear what exactly they would be doing going forward. They said they had a lot of inventory to sell. They also have many products made overseas. Were they going to continue selling the overseas made products? They indicated they would offer support for some time for existing products/customers.
I had a antenna tuner that had a bad meter illumination lamp. I looked at the MFJ website for replacement parts, but could not find much. I can live without the bulb working. Then I had a MFJ Mighty-Lite 12VDC 25A switching power supply, about 10 years old, that had a very noisy cooling fan. The noise just started, like a buzzing/vibration. Again, I could find no spare parts at MFJ for it.
Fortunately, the cooling fan was a fairly common size and type. I found one on Amazon that should work. Not quite sure about the connector type.
The fan came today and it installed fairly easily. The connector was a similar two pin, and it went on OK, though not an exact match.
But it is back running again, and hopefully it will last me another 10 years.
With hundreds of thousands of MFJ, Ameritron, Cush Craft, Hy-Gain, Vectronics products out there, I hope someone fills that void of ham radio accessories and spare parts.
