XARC Elections, November General Meeting

The following names have been received as interested candidates for the below listed positions. Other interested XARC members should announce their candidacy ASAP. Formal nominations will be solicited from the floor at the November General Meeting with voting to follow.  XARC Full (voting) Members in good standing are eligible to hold office and/or vote. Full Members shall be 21 years of age, hold a valid FCC amateur license, and be current, re: dues.

Elections will be held at the November General Meeting (November 12) with the newly elected taking office on January 1, 2016.

Nominations and Elections for 2016 Officers

Per XARC by-laws, we will be soliciting nomination’s for 2016 club officers at the October General Meeting. Elections will be held at the November General Meeting with the newly elected taking office on January 1, 2016. The positions up for election are:

President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer, (all one-year terms)and one Director (a three-year term).


Section 5.1: Annual elections shall be held at the General meeting in November. At this meeting, the membership shall elect the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and one Director. Nominations shall be solicited from the floor at a fall meeting and a list of potential Candidates for office shall be made known to members of the Club by way of its communication medium at least thirty days prior to the November meeting during which elections will occur. The vote shall be by secret ballot and shall be tabulated by three disinterested members. The candidate receiving the majority of valid votes cast will be declared the winner. In absence of a majority, the two candidates with the largest number of votes shall participate in a run-off election to be held at the General meeting in November.

Section 5.2: Elected and appointed Officers and Directors shall take office on January 1 of the following year.

Section 5.3: The President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer shall serve terms of one year.

Section 5.4: Directors shall serve terms of three years. One shall be elected each year such that the three terms of Directors are staggered. In the event more than one position is vacant, those elected shall draw straws to determine who shall serve each term.

September General Meeting to be a Tour of the AWA

The September meeting of the XARC will be a tour of the Antique Wireless Association museum in Bloomfield, NY. The tour is scheduled for September 10 at 7:00PM. We will be meeting at Cheap Charlie’s at 6:00PM for food if interested. Friends and significant others are invited.  A map to the AWA is included in their Website under “About Us / Location and Campus Details“.

Admission is $7, cash or check (no credit cards).

June 11, 2015 General Meeting Agenda

This months XARC General Meeting agenda is to organize and prepare for the upcoming ARRL Field Day. Bob Karz will be statusing the equipment list and responsibilities. We will be setting up at the Nazareth CollegePittsford,  NY site again this year. The club would like to take advantage of several point scoring opportunities this year including: Satellite QSO’s, W1AW message copying, GOTA and Youth stations. For those that can not make operating times, set-up and tear-down help is also needed. Details will be worked at the General Meeting. Please join us at both the June General Meeting as well as Field Day.

Saturday May 9th will be XARC’s famous Spring Foxhunt hidden transmitter hunt. We’ll have a special fox just for beginners, and if you tell me you’re coming, I can try to provide a lesson and/or mentor for the hunt. Talk in will be on the 146.61 repeater (correction to the RAG which said 145.29). Bring your 2 meter HT and some kids for family fun, and bring your FRS radios, smartphones, compasses and maps for more help and/or confusion. We’ll start at 9 am at Dryer Rd. Park, 7405 Dryer Road in Victor, with registration and practice, 9:30 for real hunting, and lunch around noon. But don’t arrive before 9 or you will be disqualified.

Please join us for our General Meeting (Business and Presentation by Brian, K2AS; Jon, N2JAC; Fred, WO2P; Ned, W2NED). This month’s presentation will be “Fox Hunting 101”. Be prepared for the XARC’s May hunt!
Topics to be covered are:
  • What is fox hunting
  • Types of hunts
  • Rules, procedures, scoring
  • Equipment (receivers, antennas, attenuators)
  • Techniques (body fade, tune off frequency, maps/triangulation)
  • Foxes (building, using)
  • Advanced hunting equipment
  • Hunting hints
  • Demonstrations; and of course – story telling!

Presentation/Discussion for March 12 XARC General Meeting

 Jon Dickason will make a presentation/discuss how the local ARES/RACES organization provides communications for public service events, exercises and local disasters, how we use APRS to do real time tactical mapping for these events, and how we create our own wireless Intranet using easily modified consumer wifi routers. RACES also regularly practices with Dept. of Homeland Security, FBI, ARMY, border patrol, etc., and local law enforcement.
